About The Packsaddle Inn
If you want a lovely country pub with a great atmosphere and good food, you can't do better than The Packsaddle at Mapledurham.
Whether you want to take refuge from the cold in the cosy, traditional bar or enjoy the sunshine in garden, there's something here to enjoy whatever the weather.
Pick one of the great British ales on draught, but make sure you stay for some food. A note on the menu points out the menu is 'not fast food but good food cooked as quickly as we can' and everything is worth the (minimal weight). All produce is locally sourced where possible, with good relations with the local butcher meaning everything from the mouth-watering steaks to the local bacon sliced extra thick to make for brilliant butties is given the attention it deserves.
Meanwhile the cheeseboard (worthy of a visit for a glass of red from the extensive wine list on its own) mostly boasts cheese from cheese makers in and around the Reading area. The chefs make all the gravy from stock the old-fashioned way, and potatoes are mashed, sautéed, rosti and au gratin - this is not a pub where you just get chips with everything.
This is lovely, wholesome, traditional food cooked in season and the puddings alone are worth savouring - all home made and just like granny used to make.
There's play areas for children and the atmosphere is friendly and convivial with the staff on hand to ensure every aspect of your visit is as you'd hope it would be.
