An inn which St George himself would have been happy to lay his head in, Bel and the Dragon now provides lovely, tasty food with a Mediterranean twist in a stunning building with open beamed ceilings, flagstone floors, an open fire for winter and an outside seating area with river views for the summer.

The food is great value and the menu is constantly changing to take advantage of what's in season. For a leisurely meal over a bottle of wine with good company you can't do better than their lovely selection of antipasti, served with fresh rustic bread with roasted garlic, olive oil and olives. If you do want to head onto the menu then the blue cheese-stuffed roasted figs, wrapped in parma ham and served with an apple reduction and watercress is one of those dishes which sounds intriguing and sticks in the memory long after you've finished the final morsel.
