About Cliveden

Like all beautiful country houses, Cliveden has a long tradition for warm hospitality and fine food. George Bernard Shaw famously enjoyed fine meals here as a guest of Lord and Lady Astor, and surely would be equally thrilled by the amazing cuisine offered at Cliveden nowadays in three very different but stunning restaurants.

Food is always going to taste better in beautiful surroundings, but the attention to detail given to every aspect of your meal will ensure that you are wowed as much by the cuisine, wine and attentive service as by the ambience of the house.

Named this year by the prestigious American Food and Wine as one of the 20 most exciting places to eat in the world, Waldo's restaurant, overseen by Executive Head Chef Chris Horridge has develped a reputation for healthy food packed with luscious ingredients.

It is named after Thomas Waldo Story, the sculptor of the Fountain of Love in Cliveden's driveway, a sculpture of figures swooning because they are experiencing the fresh goodness of the fountain's wonderful water. The restaurant named in his honour is said to have the same effect.

If you're wanting to indulge in glorious yet guilt-free nutritious food then the tasting menus offer something for everyone. The Without tasting menu is sugar, dairy and gluten free. The ‘With' tasting menu is perhaps for those with a less experimental palate encompass' the type of dishes you would expect to find in a high quality restaurant using the finest quality ingredients in an innovative way. A smaller a la carte menu is also available.

Meanwhile, The Terrace is a stunning south-facing dining room, bathed in sunlight and looking out over the Parterre, gardens and River Thames. The food here takes its inspiration from the classical culinary style of the golden age of Cliveden, when it was owned by Lord and Lady Astor.

The highlight of the week - a sumptuous Sunday lunch with all the trimmings - is so popular that it has been extended to Saturday as well, with roast sirloin of beef, roast pork with crackling or tender lamb all on offer.

The third restaurant, The Cliveden Club Room, was once the Duke of Westminster's personal stables. It became badly run down, but has been lovingly restored to be used by houseguests as an informal gastropub style dining area.

With Cliveden set in beautiful National Trust grounds you can enjoy a walk to work up an appetite whichever venue tempts your tastebuds.
